Robbery, Assault and Unlawful Confinement
On October 24, 2018 at approximately 9:00 pm an adult female attended a residence in the Southeast area of Medicine Hat. While at the residence, she was assaulted by two other females with a blunt object and had her personal property taken from her. The victim was held against her will inside the home and an attempt was made to extort money from her before she would be released. She was held in the residence throughout the night until she was finally able to get free and call police for help early the next morning.
The Medicine Hat Police Service Major Crimes Section completed an investigation and three people have been charged in relation to this incident. The victim and the accused are known to each other and this incident is believed to be drug related.
Amanda Kaye, 36-years-old of Medicine Hat, AB has been charged with robbery, unlawful confinement, extortion, assault with a weapon and failing to comply with court ordered release conditions from previous charges.
Theresa Babitzke, 53-years-old of Medicine Hat, AB has been charged with robbery, unlawful confinement, extortion, assault with a weapon, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property.
Matthew Babitzke, 29-years-old of Medicine Hat, AB has been charged with robbery, unlawful confinement and possession of stolen property.
All three accused are schedule to appear in court on October 30, 2018.Media Contact:
